The building was formerly used for drying wood and veneer. With the growth of tourism in mountain areas, traditional ways of life are being replaced by new ones. In winter, visitors are drawn mainly by ski resorts; in summer, by hiking trails and cycle routes. The proposal responds to the growing demand for recreational accommodation.
The cottage offers accommodation for up to 19 people. The ground floor contains an apartment for four. The upper floor includes an apartment with a kitchenette for seven and two further apartments for four people. The ground floor also has a shared room with a kitchenette and fireplace, connected to an east-facing terrace. The basement provides storage and technical facilities.
A vertical three-part composition has appeared in architecture since antiquity and can also be read in the existing building: stone basement, masonry entrance level and timber upper floor. The proposal follows and strengthens this principle with a stone-clad basement, compact middle level and timber upper part.
